As the school year comes to a close, we pause to celebrate all that the students have contributed to Chemo Buddies this year, and we’d like to extend a special THANK YOU and acknowledgement to the 8th grade students of North Junior High School and it’s staff, especially Amy Hight and Andrea Esparza who led the charge.
Their story is what we like to call, “A circle of Love.”
Last year, Amy received chemo and truly appreciated the help of her Chemo Buddies, and told her co workers about the difference they made for her.
This year, Amy returned to teaching and she and her team organized a community service project for Chemo Buddies. On Feb. 14, they had a “jeans day,” and raised almost $600! Chemo Buddy Mike Russ then spoke to all of the 8th grade classes. Inspired, the students then all designed their own sun catchers to make for patients to help spread some cheer. (Johnson Plastics donated all of the plexiglass to make this possible.)
At an all school assembly for citizenship on April 11, the 250 sun catchers, enclosed in hand decorated bags with candy were presented to Mike and Jill Kincaid by student council members.
These gifts are now being presented to patients and the circle of love continues.
Our deepest gratitude and appreciation to everyone who made this shining light possible!
