South Middle School PASS Students Help with “Chemo Buddies”

(Henderson, KY)– Students in the Positive Approach for Student Success (PASS) program sponsored at South Middle School became inspired to help those in need after watching the “Pay it Forward” movie during a class session.

After much discussion and thought, the PASS students decided to help an organization called “Chemo Buddies” which focuses on newly diagnosed chemo therapy patients with personalized gift bags to encourage them along their journey. PASS students raised $100 in donations thanks to the Circle of Friends at Chapel Hill Church. The student group then used the donation funds to shop for personal items such as toiletry items and personal decorations to include in the bags.

“Since Nancy Swanson, herself, has been through two rounds of cancer and chemo, she understands how important what the kids are doing is, and they understand how important it is to the people they are helping,” said Jamie Like, District Social Worker for Henderson County Schools.

For more information contact Nancy Swanson, South Middle School teacher and PASS coach at 270.831.5050 or Jamie Like, District Social Worker, Special Education Chairperson, Collaborative Partners at 270-831-8769.
